NATIONAL BOOK TOUR LAUNCHES TOMORROW

 

A few Naval Academy graduates decided it would be wise to gather stories about their multiple deployments over ten years of war. But what started out as a class project has now become a best-selling book.  

The military authors - the first Naval Academy graduates to commission after 9/11 – document their unexpected experiences in a book called In the Shadow of Greatness, a nod to the greatest generation they look up to through their service and sacrifices.

“Tom Brokaw endorsed our book as a ‘must read for all Americans,’” said Lieutenant Commander Joshua Welle, co-author and lead editor. “Just reading those words gives me a chill. We don’t claim to be the next greatest generation, but I think the country might need us to step up in that role.”

The military authors are taking their stories and their L.A. Times best-selling book to the streets over Veteran’s Weekend, hosting more than 40 leadership events across the country in the hope that they can and educate both military veterans and their civilian families and co-workers on the needs, goals and opportunities for post-9/11 veteran leaders.
